DHAKA (AFX) - Bangladesh national carrier Biman Airlines is to buy six

Boeing 777 and four Airbus 330 aircraft to update its its ageing fleet and expand its international routes, officials said.

"The board of Biman on Wednesday approved the purchases. As soon as the aircraft are secured we will be able to start flying to five more international destinations," Biman spokesman Syed Ahsan Hossain Kazi told Agence France-Presse.

The new routes will be to Baghdad, Tripoli, Seoul, Jakarta and Colombo.

The aircraft could cost state-owned Biman up to 1.0 bln usd, another

official added, speaking on condition of anonymity.

"Both Boeing and Airbus have given proposals to Biman for purchasing aircraft on easier credit terms and the board approved it," Kazi said.

Subject to final approval by the cabinet, the order will be placed in June with Biman taking delivery of the new aircraft by early 2007, he said.
