Mit LH A340 in C nach USA...wie ist es ??

Hallo,

 

ich fliege Mitte Mai mit der Lufthansa von TXL via MUC nach ORD in einem A 340.

 

Ich habe Plätze in Reihe 3 (Hinflug) und Reihe 4 (Rückflug), also in C-Class

Fenster war leider weg, also beides Mal Gangplätze.

Ist jemand schon mal mit dem A340 in C geflogen und kann mir davon berichten ?

 

Wie siehts mit dem Serviceangebot aus ?

klingt doch super

 

Ich fliege am 9. Mai, aber Gangplatz ist auch OK, denn ich hab eh keine Lust 9 Stunden lang aus dem Fenster zu gucken, sondern sitze lieber am Gang und kann dann besser aufstehen.

 

Wie ist es mit dem PTV in den Sitzen ? Kann ich da selber aussuchen, wann ich welchen FIlm etc, gucken will oder ist es wie in Eco, wo eins nach dem anderen gezeigt wird ??

Naja, aber es sollte trotzdem reichen, um die Zeit einigermaßen gut rumzukriegen....und auf dem Rückflug werde ich eh die meiste Zeit schlafen, der Abflug ist erst um 22:00 h...

 

Gibt es eigentlich Erfahrungen (du bist ja anscheinend LH-Insider), ob man in die F kommen kann, wenn die leer ist ?? Quasi so ein kurzfristiges "Sie-sind-ja-nett-,würden-Sie-mich-in-die-First-upgraden?"-Versuch beim Check-In ??

beim c/i sind die chancen gleich null, ist nur möglich, wenn die c-class STARK überbucht ist.

aber du kannst ja an bord betteln! und wenn das nicht klappt, gibt es ja auch die möglichkeit an bord ein upgrade für f/cl zu kaufen (sofern ein platz frei), was um ein vielfaches billiger als ein normales f/cl-ticket.

Das ist mir nun neu. Nun, offiziell gibt es das wohl nicht, da verdienen sich die Schubsen dann wohl schwarz was hinzu????!!!

Also ich kann mir auch nicht vorstellen, dass man an Bord upgraden kann, das wäre echt neu und organisatorisch gar nicht zu leisten.

also bei der aua ist es möglich. also warum nicht auch bei lh...

man macht natürlich keine aktive werbung daher nicht sehr verbreitet und es ist auch nur möglich sofern vorne noch platz ist. das ganze ist aber legal und die "schubsen" verdienen sich nichts dazu... (wo sollte organisatorisch ein problem sein)

geschenkt wird einem das upgrade auch nicht, aber nach wie vor um einiges billiger als ein normaler tarif (langstrecke pro flug ca. 300 euro)

@ChiefT: LH bietet die Upgrades schonmal, je nach Buchungslage und Station, am Check-In an. BA bietet das Upgrade auch an Bord an, wenn genug Essen geladen wurde.

 

@zinni: Ist neuerdings der Welcome-Drink in C Champagner? Bisher gab es dort immer einen Winzersekt...den Schampus gibt es erst nach dem Start. Nur in F habe ich bisher am Boden das "edlere" Blubberwasser bekommen...

 

Zum eigentlichen Thema: Ich habe mal einen Trip-Report auf Flyertalk über einen LH-C-Flug nach PHX geschrieben. Ich habe die Teile vor und nach dem Flug weggelassen...leider in Englisch, aber vielleicht ja trotzdem interessant:

 

LH448 FRA-PHX, 2xC-class 1xY-class, scheduled 10:25-13:05, actual 11:00-13:23, aircraft: 342, seats: 4HK and 30C

 

We were about the last persons to board the aircraft. We took our window and aisle seats in the front C-cabin of the A340 (only two rows), which I prefer because it is much more quiet and gets serviced first. Sadly my seat was broken (it reclined in the moment I sat down), and they had to call the purser to readjust the recline (I now know how to do it myself as he explained me the technical details behind the seat) so I could sit there. Load on this flight was very high in Y (every seat taken), but only mediocre in C (about 30 people of 42 possible) and empty in F. The F-cabin was turned into the crew rest-area during this flight. Our son had one of the exit-row seats in Y which we were able to get for him as we checked in for this flight the evening before just after the flight was opened for check-in (yet we were still the number 15 to 17 in the boarding-sequence).

 

We taxied again for some time to the left main-runway and took off toward the south. This time the take-off roll was very long, and we had only very little runway left when we finally got the wheels up. During take-off we passed by a SQ-744 that just had arrived, probably from JFK. We turned left a few miles after being airborne and the flew north over Bremen to the North sea and then on the transatlantic run. Today's routing went north of Iceland, over Greenland, and Canada entering the USA in Montana to fly south over Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon into Phoenix.

 

Shortly after reaching cruise altitude the first drinks were served, and the menus were handed out. Today's menu:

The Champagne was unremarkable at best, and a big step down from what I had before on Lufthansa flights, and I was really disappointed. It really tasted bland and even the sparkling wine LH serves as a welcome-drink was more appealing to me. I switched to wine after the first glass of it.

For Lunch wife and I had the Breast of Duck, which was very tasty, but I did not like the Lentil salad, and the herbed mustard dressing did not match the salad too good IMHO. As entree I had the Almond chicken which was good and the portion while not generous was sufficient even for a good eater like me. For dessert I chose the Red Fruit Pudding and the Fruit salad (no problem getting both), and made sure to keep the menu as the recipe for the pudding was in there. I had the Sauvignon Blanc with my main course, which was decent, but the Silvaner Spätlese was much superior (my wife had it) and matched the food much better. After lunch I decided to take a nap and woke up a few hours later for the mid-flight snack. This time we were offered fruit-cake, fresh whole fruit or a cheese and ham sandwich. I had the cake that again was pretty tasty, my wife had the sandwich that was unremarkable instead. Fresh whole fruit was an apple.

 

As many pointed out already, LH’s seat and the inflight entertainment is not really exciting, but still decent. My wife watched Ice Age, and I had the airshow on for most of the flight. The C-class seat reclines no way near a flat bed, but I can even sleep in an economy seat, so this is no big deal for me. At this point I'd like to give a big compliment to the crew on this flight. They were the most wonderful people I have ever had on an airplane so far. Friendly, efficient, caring and always offering a smile to their guests. It really made me feel "at home", and I had a chat with several of them during the flight which added some personal touches to this experience. Turned out that they stay at the same hotel in Phoenix as we do, and one of them will still be there (on holiday with his family) when we check in there in a few days, so we decided to meet for a drink then.

 

About two hours before arrival, another meal was served. This time, the menu offered:

Fillet of Hake with Herbs

Quiche with Leeks and Chanterelle Mushrooms

 

Dessert

 

Passion Fruit Delight and Strawberry Puree

 

 

I had the Quiche which was decent, and this time the Dressing met the taste of the salad much better. My wife had the Hake and really raved about it; she even tried to have me taste it (and that to a person who declines fish since I was born…;-)). The dessert was a little strange looking, but well edible. However I have not tasted the Passion fruit out of it, as the Strawberry Puree was very strong and covered everything else tastewise.

 

Shortly before arrival the pilot came on the PA and did some tour-guide stuff when we passed over the Bryce- and Grand Canyon. With very little clouds and overcast we had a brilliant view of these two landmarks. We landed in Phoenix slightly behind schedule at 13:12 and taxied to Gate B23 with a gate arrival at 13:23.

man kennt ja bereits meine Meinung zu einem "du bist aber so nett"-Upgrading.

 

Bei Condor machen wir die Ansage, falls keine Upgrades in der CCC sitzen. Preis ist der gleiche wie im Rsb oder sonstwo.

Das Geld wandert wohl kaum in die eigene Tasche. Für wie dumm hälst Du das Kabinenpersonal eigentlich? Na ja, dein "Schubsen" sagt eh alles.

Ich hatte zwar selten das Glück, upgegradet zu werden - beim Checkin noch nie (habe aber auch nie darum gebettelt). Ich denke, die besten Chancen sind bei stark überbuchten Flügen direkt am Gate. Nach welchen Kriterien man dann für ein Upgrade in Frage kommt, weiss ich nicht, vielleicht nach Buchungsklasse oder MM Status.

 

Bin heute gerade aus PHX zurück gekommen (A342/AIBF) und hatte auf meinem Hinflug vor ein paar Wochen das Glück, ein Upgrade von C in F zu bekommen (mein erster Flug in F, A342/D-AIBE ). Ich war wirklich begeistert. Die C bei LH ist mittlerweile denke ich etwas "substandard", wenn man z.B. mit BA oder den asiatischen Carriern vergleicht.

 

Für mich jedenfalls ist der Sitz das wichtigste Kriterium. Das Catering ist eh meistens reichhaltiger als das, was man seinem Magen zumuten sollte. Und vom Sitzkomfort her ist die LH C-Klasse "gefühlsmäßig" vielleicht sogar näher an mancher "Economy Plus" als an der eigenen F.
