Czech Travel Giant Fischer Faces Asset Seizure

PRAGUE -(Dow Jones)- Czech commercial court bailiffs Thursday began tallying assets of Vaclav Fischer, owner of the largest Czech travel company, following bankruptcy charges against Fischer by his creditors, a company spokeswoman said.

 

"The court officials came today without a prior notice, serving us a court ruling based on the charge filed by Komercni Banka," Vera Kudynova told Dow Jones Newswires in a telephone interview.

 

Komercni Banka AS , a unit of French Societe Generale , is a creditor of Fischer SRO, a company controlled by Fischer that holds 1% of travel company Cestovni Kancelar Fischer AS.

 

Fischer, founder of the company and a former Czech upper house senator, holds the remaining 99% of CK Fischer AS.

 

"Komercni Bank has received the ruling by the (district) court for Prague 1 about the seizure of the assets of Fischer SRO and the assets of Mr. Vaclav Fischer," Komercni Banka Chairman Alexis Juan told a news conference earlier Thursday.

 

Juan declined to comment in detail about the seizure and likely bankruptcy of the region's largest travel agency, which operates tours for some 300,000 clients a year.

 

Kudynova said that pending seizures of the assets of Fischer SRO and Fischer himself have no impact on CK Fischer AS.

 

CK Fischer AS sells package tours, and the businesses of its affiliates span from the operation of a fleet of three 737 Boeing jets to the publishing of travel magazines in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

 

Fischer started his business in the early 1990s following his return from Germany, where he had fled from the former Communist Czechoslovakia in 1978.

 

In Germany he started a successful travel company, Fischer Reisen, credited by travel experts for the pioneering of air travel package tours in Germany to destinations like Canary Islands.

 

After the 1989 Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia, Fischer began operating travel tours in his former homeland. In 1995 he sold his German travel company to focus on expanding into Eastern Europe.

 

In 1999, Fischer entered Czech politics by winning a seat in the Senate, Czech parliament's upper house. He served in the Senate until June 2002. Last year, Fischer said in an interview with Czech daily newspaper Mlada Fronta Dnes that he would like to run for the country's presidency in 2008.

 

Fischer couldn't be reached to comment on the latest developments concerning his businesses.

 

Komercni Banka has claimed that Fischer and his companies owe the bank around 100 million koruna ($1=CZK29), Kudynova said.

 

Citing banking regulations, Komercni Banka's Juan declined to comment on the amount of outstanding loans issued to Fischer and his companies.

 

In recent years, Fischer held unsuccessful talks with various investors, including Europe's largest tourism company, TUI AG , about a possible equity partnership with CK Fischer AS, Kudynova said.

 

"These talks have never come to fruition and we are currently negotiating with other investors," she said, declining to give further details.

 

According to news agency CTK, Fischer's airline company, Fischer Air, is facing bankruptcy charges initiated by the Czech state-owned airport authority, Ceska Sprava Letist, or CSL, which operates the country's largest airport in Prague from where most of Fischer Air's flights originate.

 

The state-owned flagship airline, Ceske Aerolinie AS , or CSA, has also initiated bankruptcy charges against Fischer Air. CSL and CSA say Fischer Air owes them a combined CZK36 million, CTK said.

 

Officials at CSA and CSL couldn't be immediately reached for comment.

 

CTK also reported that the Czech unit of German insurer Allianz AG has canceled the insurance coverage for Fischer Air after the airline failed to pay insurance premiums to Allianz.

 

Allianz officials couldn't be reached for comment.

 

Kudynova said that neither Fischer nor his companies have been yet officially notified about the insurance cancellation.

 

"As far as I know from the media reports, the insurance coverage is still in force for the next 30 days," she said.

Tja, schon schade, dass es dann doch so den Bach runtergeht. Es war zwar schon im letzten Winter kolportiert worden, dass es um Fischer schlecht steht. Dass es ganz so schlimm kommt, hätten wohl nicht viele für möglich gehalten.

 

Immerhin ist Mr. Fischer eine der schillerndsten Persönlichkeiten in der tschechischen Republik. Leider hat er die letzten Jahre immer mehr Spass daran gefunden, sich in neueste Geschäftsbereiche totzudiversifizieren (u.a. Modeaccessoires Fischer Collection). Da blieb wohl nicht mehr viel Zeit für seine Tourismusaktivitäten.

 

Auf der anderen Seite konnte Cedok (Tochter für die Durchführung der Flüge ist Travelservis) immer mehr Boden gut machen. Nicht nur, dass Fischer konstant teurer war, auch sein Vertriebsnetz, dass einst eine der eindeutigen strenghts seiner Company war, blieb immer mehr hinter der Konkurrenz zurück. Zumal Cedok mit einem mittlerweile sehr starkem Engagement im Incoming Geschäft geschickt ein Standbein gefunden hat, mit dem man noch im Frühjahr/Spätsommer/Herbst Geschäft machen kann, denn das wirkliche Geschäft im Outbound Verkehr beschränkte sich bisweilen doch sehr stark auf die Monate Juli und August. Selbst CSA kam mit ihren Charteraktivitäten nicht gut zurecht und hat jüngst intensiver Charterflüge im Incoming-Bereich ins Programm genommen (Bari, Neapel, Verona, Bilbao o.ä. für Incoming-Städtetouristen).

 

Letzten Endes ist es mit dem steigenden Stern Cedok dann doch nur allzu logisch, dass Fischer die Segel streicht, denn der Markt ist halt nicht allzu groß. Schade, die Fischer Truppe war immer extrem ok. Angeblich soll der Reiseveranstalter selbst wohl überleben. Auf der anderen Seite sind m.W. die verschiedenen Unternehmen von Herrn Fischer und auch sein Privatvermögen recht eng miteinander verflochten, was sich sicherlich nicht als vorteilhaft erweisen sollte.

 

BTW: Die WestLB und letzten Endes die NRW-Steuerzahler dürfte es ja mal wieder freuen...

Mit der Finanzmaklergesellschaft Atlantik hat sich ein Investor gefunden, der mit einer Kapitalspritze dafür sorgen wird, dass (vorerst) alles normal weiter laufen kann.

 

Am Sonntag ist ein Vertrag über eine Eigenkapitalbeteiligung unterschrieben worden. Im Fischerimperium sollen alleine in den letzten 12 Monaten Schulden in Höhe von 400 Mio. KC (~15 Mio EUR) aufgelaufen sein.

 

Als glücklich könnte sich zudem der Umstand erweisen, dass es nur relativ wenige große Gläubiger ist. Mit über 300 Mio. KC entfallen fast alle Schulden bei Kreditinstituten auf die Komercni Banku. Bezieht man zudem CSA, CSL (Ceska sprava letist') und die Allianz ein, hat man wohl deutlich über 90 Prozent der Schulden abgedeckt. Das dürfte eine Restrukturierung erleichtern. Mal schauen, wie das Geschäft zusammengeschrumpft wird.

Wie ist's denn ein Jahr später um Fischer Air gestellt?

 

Die Flottengrösse ist ja noch immer die selbe. Eine Maschine (OK-FUN) ist an Air Polonia verleast und eine an Volare Airlines, so dass nur eine einzige wirklich bei Fischer Air zum Einsatz kommt.

Übrigens ist die eine 737 OK-FUN immer noch bei APN. Habe sie vorgestern in Fischer-Bemalung mit APN-Aufklebern auf Rumpf und Triebwerk (jedoch nur rechts - Türseite, links nichts!) in WAW gesehen.
