jc2003 Geschrieben 26. November 2003 Melden Geschrieben 26. November 2003 Dear Convair 990 enthusiasts: A few years ago, I attempted to start an organization we tentatively called the Convair 990 Preservation Project. It arose out of the desire to acquire, restore and operate the last flyable example of a wonderful airplane. Soon thereafter, I had some drastic changes in my life that kept me from being able to dedicate the necessary time to the project. Many of you were willing to support the project and even lend a helping hand. However, what was needed at the time was people willing to put many hours in to get the project "off the ground", mainly fundraising and marketing. In the mean time, David Topher, the owner of the aircraft has been unable to maintain it and pay the ramp fees at the El Paso International Airport. He has put it up for sale, and it has not sold. It is very close to being scrapped. I am still not in a position to head such a massive undertaking, but I am willing to help an emergency effort to acquire the plane and rescue it from the junkyard. At one point, Mr. Topher had offered to donate the 990 if we got the organization going. Now, I think he has to pay the fees that this aircraft accumulated, so some fundraising would have to be done to buy it. Regardless, I'll share all the information with anyone willing to head up this task. Please contact me as soon as possible if you have the time, energy and desire to make sure this beautiful piece of aviation history is preserved. Sincerely, Michael Moore Houston, Texas, USA moore_michael@earthlink.net
