Spotten in Bali

Ich bin gerade auf Bali im Urlaub. Und wie ich so am Strand von Kuta liege und immer die landenden Flugzeuge sehe, kam mir der Gedanke, dass man noch auch mal ein bischen spotten koennte.

Kann mir dazu jemand Tipps geben? Ist spotten hier eigentlich erlaubt? Wie kommt man am besten an den Strand bei der Landebahn?

The airport has two terminalbuildings, one for domestic flights and the other for international flights. There is an observationdeck in the international terminal, however this seems to be closed most of the times because it is close to VIP lounges. The deck is also only reachable when passing customs. The connectionbridge between the two terminals offers a place for photos through the glass. Aircraft on the taxiway can easily be photographed here.

 

The airport has a single runway 09/27 and most of the times runway 09 is in use (landings from the seaside)

 

It is possible to get rampaccess. Go to the office of Angkasa Pura I, which is the management of the airport. The office is located just after passing a petrolstation on your way from the terminal to Denpasar town.

 

A very good spot for photos is located near the Patra Jasa Bali hotel. Take a taxi from the terminal and let you bring to the hotel. Or you can also walk, but it can be hot. Another option is to rent a bike in Denpasar and use that. Get out the taxi before entering the lane towards to hotel and walk to the Tuban beach. Just follow the beach towards the runway which is partly into the sea. There is a small fence her but no problems for photos. You are very close to the taxiway and you have to be carefull not to be hit by a taxiiing airplane (size B747/A340)

 

There are no problems with the police or locals here. Everyone is very friendly. Do not forget to bring losts of sunlotion with you, as well as water, a cap to protect your head for the sunshine and something to protect the camera against the sand on the beach

It is still possible to get an apron-pass. This is fairly easy to get: just walk to the terminal inspector's office, located in the domestic terminal, close to the info counter, have your passport with you, and ask for it. The pass costs 66 000 rupees, about 9 USD, and is valid for one pass through security. Only two rules exist at the apron: no smoking and don't walk to the taxi/runways! Otherwise, the apron is yours! As I only spent one day spotting at DPS, I had no interest in checking out the other places around the airport, more than finding out that getting pictures from the side of the airport which has the terminal is hard. On the other side of the airport it seems that there is a chance to get close to the perimeter fence. There is a village and a cement-factory there, right next to the airport, so getting close to these might be a good idea.

Denpasar is Indonesia's second busiest airport. It has some international traffic like KLM B747, Qantas B767 and B737 (during the night), Ansett, Singapore Airlines A310, Royal Brunei Fokker 100, Malaysia B737 and some charters from Europe.

All Indonesian airlines can be seen here, being Airfast, Mandala and Bouraq the more exotic ones.

 

The airport has a domestic and an international terminal. Both offer no viewing facilities for non-travellers. When you depart from the airport you can watch the aircraft and take photographes through the windows in the terminalbuilding. This spot can easily be found.

 

There is one runway which stretches partly into the sea. In summer aircraft mostly land from the west. This is where the runway streches in the sea.

 

I have not seen any good spot for photography. Logging is no problem. I tried to reach the runway via the beach, but a canal near the fuelstation prevents you from coming to close. No good photography from here.

 

When winds are from the west, and that starts in October, you can take good approach shoots.

 

Near the cargo area is one spot where you can take a photo when you are lucky. most of the times views are restricted by trucks and other airport equipment.

 

It is possible to buy an apron permit. Best is to write in advance to:

This is the address of airport management. You have to pay a lot of money, about 55,000 Rupiah (about $20) for this permit. When aircraft land from sea this is the only possibility to get good photos.

There is a good spot to be reached when you leave the airport heading for Nusa Dua, behind the bridge to the right, pass the catering. This is on the southside of the runway. Park the car here and walk towards a small poor people's village. Here you are at the fence of the airport. A Boeing 737 needs 140 mm. Mind that the sun is facing you almost all day in May/June.

Hier im Forum ist das sogar in Deutsch erhältlich, gibt doch einfach bei der Suche den Begriff "Bali" ein, dann wirst du sicherlich fündig!

ich war im august diese jahres da und kann folgendes dazu sagen:

-es ist laut den roten schildern verboten sich dem Zaun näher als 1000 meter zu nähern allerdings hielten sich die einheimischen nicht daran.

ich bin immer (es war 2x) gegen 1400-1500 gekommen. zu dieser zeit kamen die taiwaner, air paradise und jede menge inlänsiche airlines.

um dort hin zu gelangen läufst du einfach immer am strand entlang. vom Hard Rock Hotel/Cafe braucht man 30 minuten (bin mir da nicht 100% sicher da wir in Kuta in 2 Hotels waren). das Taxi kostet von Kuta-DPS 2€ zurück sogar noch weniger, da die strecke kürzer ist.

Hi all

ich überlege momentan ob ich nächstes Jahr nach Bali gehen soll. Alleine der Flug wär es wert. Was gibst denn auf Bali alles zu sehen (nein nicht nur Flugzeuge:-)

Ich war am 12.12. dort zum spotten, wir sind am Strand entlang hingelaufen, es hat sich keiner daran gestoert, abgesehen davon waren noch einige Einheimische dort zum angeln.

Allerdings starten die Flugzeuge seit 10.12. ununterbrochen in Richtung Meer, und landen dann natuerlich auch in diese Richtung, was nicht gerade gut ist zum spotten.

Als ich letzten August da war, sind sie immer vom Meer her gelandet, nur hatte ich da meine Kamera nicht dabei

Ich bin jetzt noch genau eine Woche da, ich hoffe dass sie die Landerichtung noch aendern, damit ich noch ein paar gute Bilder machen kann...

Normalerweise fliegen die immer vom Meer her an (West-Ost-Richtung), jedoch gab es -als ich da war- gelegentlich auch das Gegenteil. Du kannst also fast sicher sein, dass die Richtung geändert wird!

Heute war unser letzter Tag auf Bali, morgen frueh gehts nach SIN, und dann mit SQ 26 nach FRA.

Die kompletten 3 Wochen sind sie in Ost-West Richtung gestartet und gelandet, war also nicht so reizvoll zu spotten.

Vielleicht klappts beim naechsten Mal...

1993 konnte man dort mit einem weißen UH-1 zu Rundflügen starten. Die Seitentüren waren entfernt worden, dann ging es im Tiefflug den Strand entlang oder über den Dschungel. Der Flugpreis war erschwinglich um so mehr Passagiere an Bord waren. Den wunderbaren Sound habe ich heute noch in den Ohren.

ich hatte auf Bali Glück mit dem Wetter jedesmal landung vom Meer her.

 

das einzige Problem ist das es dort keinen Schatten gibt:).

fazit: eine Reise nach Bali ist sein geld wert (nicht nur zum Spotten)
