kingair9 Geschrieben 19.
A300B2 Geschrieben 19. März 2004 Melden Geschrieben 19. März 2004 Poland Warsaw Okecie (EPWA/WAW) The airport has two runways, 15-33 (3600meters) and 11-29 (2800 meters). Both runways cross eachother. For landing runway 33 is used. Smaller traffic sometimes uses runway 29 . For departures runway 29 is used, but heavier traffic uses 33. The new terminal (Okecie II) has a fine open air observationdeck. The entrance fee is 2 Zloty (about 50 US dollarcents) and you have a good view of the apron here. The deck is open from 07:0 till 20:00. There is no problem with spotting and taking photographs. In the afternoon the sun is facing you. LOT and Eurolot are the most active users of the airport. The government aircraft and helicopters cannot be seen from the deck. From the rightside of the departurefloor you can see these planes (Tu154, Yak40 and Mil 8). Also the parking garage can be used for viewing and taking photographs. Best spot for viewing is the head of runway 29. This spot can be reached by using the road to the cargoterminal. Bus number 154 will bring you here. Departing traffic can be photographed from here, a Boeing 737 needs about 70mm. The light is facing you in the afternoon. Movements are slow at this airport. Interesting airlines serving Warsaw are Air Ukraine Tu134, Air Baltic S340 and Lithuanian Airlines Saab340. Most European airlines have a schedule to Warsaw. Another report by Geoff Pierce, submitted July 2000 Warsaw has a fine modern terminal with an open air viewing deck running almost the full length of the front of the terminal- at high level. The deck faces , almost south west, so it has some drawbacks, it faces rather into the sun for most of the day making photos tricky, and in any sort of westerly wind you are very exposed- a slight breeze at ground level equates to a gale on the viewing deck. There is little creature comfort there- very little protection from the elements, no refreshments , only a few seats round the corner ,by the entrance and the only facilities are toilets. However this is compensated by the fine views- the airport is laid out in front of you, everything moving is readable. The gates immediately in front and 100ft below you are used by LOT and the main W.European jet fleets;- remote stands immediately to the left, and over to the right are used by the Eurolot ATR and Emb 145 Fleets, to the left and further out park the `interesting E-European planes, and to the extreme right at the end of the main runway is the biz-jet area and parked cargo planes, assorted Let 410`s etc. The Polish Govt fleet of Yaks, Tupolev`s, and heli`s are more easily visible from the multi storey car park behind the terminal, and are easily readable/photographable. The deck is open 08.00- 20.00, entrance is 2. Zloty-, and is accessed from a separate outside entrance, through a security check like- ZRH/FRA . Inside the terminal are the usual facilities on both arrivals and departures levels, snack bars etc, with good prices. However there are NO views from inside the terminal until you go to departure lounge, through security. Hence spotting at WAW would be fairly uncomfortable in poor weather, if stuck outside! There is another viewing spot at ground level 200 yds south (to the left ) of the terminal, which is easily reached by following the perimeter road. A grassy area with trees goes up to the perimeter fence- which consists of 6ft vertical railings, spaced about 5" apart, making it very easy to photgraph through. This position, gives good views of some of the parked Eurolot aircraft, and planes taxiing to runway 29 for take off-although, debris in the foreground- ATR start up compressors, baggage trolleys, cones, parked busses make it a bit of an obstacle course to get `clean` photos of the plane you want. There are 2 main runways- 33 passes lengthways in front of and parallel to the viewing deck and is used for most arrivals, and also the Lot wide bodied departures- runway 29 is used for most departures. traffic on either is easily seen from the viewing deck Patience is a virtue at WAW, it is not a busy airport- sometimes nothing moves for 20mins, but with judicious use of a timetable, quality traffic can be seen-. For anybody thinking of coming for an extended stay, public transport is superb to the city- Bus #175 departs around every 12 mins to the city centre, costing 2.4 Zloty- buy the tickets at the kiosk in the terminal (ask for bilety) and then stamp them in the machine onboard the bus. Note, you need another 2.4 Zl separate ticket for bulky luggage- say anything larger than a daybag.- Inspectors are very frequent, especially on this route, as many `tourists chance their luck, or don`t realise the rules for buying extra tickets for each piece of bulky luggage, so fines are expensive and common. There is a selection of hotels in the city, but perhaps not as many as in most other cities, I didn`t have anything prebooked, and the tourist office at the Airport struggled to find me a hotel on the first night. However they are very good value- I stayed in 2 different hotels- at a cost of 130 Zloty/ night inc breakfast. In the city are all the usual `facilities` of Pizza Hut, KFC, BK, McD etc for the unadventurous! Exchange rate is 6.5Zloty=œ1, (try not to exchange money at the airport as rates are far better in town, but if you must- make sure you use the Powszechny Bank Kredytowy on the departures floor for a fair rate) An additional report by local spotter Tomasz Kozakowski 1. Excellent view for a military ramp you can have from the last level of the car park. Normaly you can see there a fleet of Polish Air Force (36 SPLT - Special Air Transport Unit) of Yakovlev 40, Tu-154 and Mil-8 helicopters. Occasionally some military An-26, An-28 and Sokol helicoters happen as well. 2. For arriving and departing aircraft from runway 29 take a bus 154 from crossroad of 17 Stycznia and Zwirki i Wigury street (3rd bus stop on the line 175 or 188 going from Terminal 1's arrival level). The 154 bus will take you directly to the position, when you can watch all (incl. cargo) movement. Quelle: http://www.spottersunited.com weiß natürlich nicht, wie aktuell das ist...
