Denver Airport officials meet with Lufthansa to pitch nonstop to Munich

Lufthansa could decide this summer whether to start flying nonstop from DIA to Munich, a Denver official said Monday. Sally Covington, director of marketing for Denver International, said the city's proposal for the flight got a warm reception last week from Lufthansa, which could make a decision in 2 to 3 months. Lufthansa asked Denver officials to conduct further research to show how many business travellers might use the service. DIA officials met with Lufthansa at the airline's headquarters. They also met last week with executives of KLM to propose Denver-Amsterdam service. Denver is offering each airline US$1m in marketing incentives that could be used to promote the proposed new service. Denver officials have been trying for several years to land a second nonstop daily flight to continental Europe. The only such flight today is Lufthansa's Denver-Frankfurt service, which has been highly popular since starting in March 2001.
