Bis jetzt ist noch kein Vermerk auf der Homepage ersichtlich, jedoch ich konnte nicht mehr auf die Seite zur Buchung von Tickets gelangen.

SkyEurope offers free flights to stranded Air Polonia passengers

SkyEurope, Central Europe’s first low cost low fare airline with bases in Warsaw, Krakow, Budapest and Vienna-Bratislava, announced today a plan to assist the many thousands passengers disrupted as a result of Air Polonia ceasing operations on Sunday. This plan is the result of an initiative by Mr. Jan Litwiński, President & CEO of Air Polonia, in order to find the best possible solution to re-protect stranded Air Polonia passengers.

 

SkyEurope significantly contributed to the democratization of air transport in Central and Eastern Europe when it introduced the first low fare flights three years ago. Many passengers in the region have discovered air transport thanks to low cost airlines. SkyEurope’s offer to stranded Air Polonia passengers is therefore aimed at protecting the trust placed by customers in the low cost airline industry.

 

The network of SkyEurope should allow rebooking of up to 90% of the 53,000 passengers booked on Air Polonia for the remaining winter season (until 26 March 2005):

Poznan – London Stansted ––> Warsaw – London Stansted

Gdansk – London Stansted ––> Warsaw – London Stansted

Bydgoszcz – London Stansted ––> Warsaw – London Stansted

 

SkyEurope has undertaken to offer free flights* to all passengers, booked to travel Air Polonia, on any one of these routes, during the period from 6 December 2004 to 26 March 2005 (limited availability during the peak Christmas period where free seats will not be available as many of SkyEurope’s flights are already sold out). Stranded Air Polonia passengers can make a booking on these routes, from today 5 December 2004 until midnight 20 December 2004, subject to availability by accessing SkyEurope’s website at http://www.skyeurope.com, and entering a member mode by keying in their Air Polonia booking confirmation. Passengers will be offered a fare of PLN 0.01 and will only be obliged to pay airport taxes and passenger charges for each of the relevant routes. All bookings of these free flights will be on a first come first served basis and are subject to seat availability. Bookings can only be performed over the web site. Passengers who booked through a travel agent are requested to contact their travel agent to perform the rebooking via the web site.

 

*Free flight = PLN 0.01 fare (only for tax and accounting reasons) but the passenger pays any relevant airport taxes and passenger charges.

 

“We will do our best to help out stranded Air Polonia passengers and to reunite families and friends in this period before and after Christmas”, said Christian Mandl, SkyEurope’s Chief Executive. “Our offer is directed at the passengers. We have no intention to take over the company Air Polonia Ltd. given the accumulated debts and liabilities. We will however create job opportunities for some of the Air Polonia staff wishing to join SkyEurope in Warsaw or Krakow”.

 

SkyEurope will soon announce an increase in frequencies on existing routes as well as the launch of new destinations out of Poland.

Und das war der dritte in 8 Wochen. Fuer meinen Geschmack hat das LowCost-Sterben am Europa-Himmel laengst eingesetzt. Es werden diesen Winter nicht die einzigen bleiben. Auchen in UK ist der Markt zu heiss umkaempft.

 

Insgesamt gesehen ist der Markt hoffnungslos uebersaettigt, deshalb die Preise niedrig. Unter diesen Vorraussetzungen auch nur die GESAMTkosten rauszufliegen duerften vielen schwerfallen. Es nuetzt nix operativ ne schwarze Null zu produzieren, wenn man die Zinsen fuer die Schulden der Anlaufphase nicht bedienen kann. Selbst die grossen wie Easy und FR machen im Winter wohl kaum Gewinn. Und fuer die neuen gibt es nur eine Chance Sitze zu fuellen mit Tiefstpreisen, die fuehren aber verdammt schnell in die Pleite.

Vermutlich hat die Ankündigung der Gründung der LOT Low Cost Tochter Polish Wings der Air Polonia den Rest gegeben, bzw. die Geldgeber sahen keine Perspektive meht.

Der Investor Crescent wollte APN nicht mehr bezahlen. Morgen müsste APN die Rate für die Maschinen im Leasing bezahlen, und wegen des Rückzuges des Investor kann APN die Rate nicht mehr bezahlen. Die Maschinen von APN sollen noch heute WAW verlassen.

Ganz schön peinlich auch für HLX, dass nach Volare nun schon ihr zweiter Partner pleite gemacht hat...

Vielleicht sollten die sich die Geschäftsberichte mal besser ansehen, bevor sie wieder Buchungen zu Fremdairlines auf ihrer Seite verlinken.

Mit Air Polonia gab es ja sogar viel mehr als nur eine Verlinkung. HLX hatte Codeshare mit Air Polonia, so dass Kunden, die Kattowitz gebucht bei HLX haben, in Flügen "operated by Air Polonia" saßen. Betroffen ist hier aber zum Glück niemand, da dies mit dem Ende der CGN-Flüge von Air Polonia Ende Oktober weggefallen ist.

Auch Wizz Air bietet nun kostenlose Tickets für Air Polonia Ticketinhaber an. Amüsant ist die Headline:

Auf der Air Polonia Seite findet sich aber kein Hinweis auf Wizz Air.
