Thai Airways orders six Boeing planes worth 1.1 billion dollars

 

SINGAPORE, Jan 27 (AFP) -

Thai Airways has placed an order for six Boeing 777-200ER jets worth 1.1 billion dollars, the two companies said in a statement released here on Thursday.

 

The first of the long-haul planes will be delivered between August next year and October 2007, bringing Thai Airways' fleet of planes to 89, most of which are Boeing 737s, 747s and 777s, the companies said.

 

"THAI was a launch customer for the Boeing 777 program and has been operating that airplane, the best in its class, from the very beginning," Thai Airways president Kanok Abhiradee said in the statement.

 

"We're purchasing 777-200ERs for our long-haul routes primarily because of the 777s exceptional relibality, economics and efficiency."

 

I would like to see TG using its B 772ERs on nonstop flights to MAN, SVO, BRU, JNB, Nairobi and Cairo.

 

Yes ZRH will see A 346 service shortly but I wont be surprised if it becomes a B 772ER route in the future as well.

 

 

The statement said the order was booked in the final quarter of last year and had been listed in the unidentified category on Boeing's orders and deliveries website.

 

The announcement comes as Boeing faces an increasingly tough challenge from European rival Airbus for dominance in the lucrative Asian market.

 

Chinese flag carrier Air China said Thursday it had agreed to buy 20 A330-200 Airbus planes worth 2.86 billion dollars.

 

The China Daily reported Wednesday that China Southern Airlines was near to a deal to buy five Airbus A380 superjumbo aircraft.
