I am rather surprised that there is almost no attention/messages about the crisis of the Exel Aviation Group in the Netherlands, owned by mr Erik de Vlieger.

As you know the EAG consists out of many small airlines around Europe and the Dutch Antilles.

After some months of many negative events, the group is falling apart. Some comapanies already ceased operation (like elsace exel and loir exel), others will close very soon. Today two major things happened: The furniture of Air Exel has been sold by the Tax department because air exel did not pay their taxes. Air Exel still alive but cancelled all flights (eindhoven- LHR, EIN-CDG, MST-EIN).

Another airline, Holland Exel HXL, filed today a request for protection against the debtors and the lawcourt accepted that. This means that HXL can still operate the longhaul charter flights from AMS tot the carribean, antilles and asia for the touroperators TUI and Thomas Cook the next days until HXL found some solutions for their very severe finanial problems.

As you all know, the management of HXL and the EAG (e de vlieger, harm prins) has been arrested due to fact they are accused of threatening people (guilty not proven). Prins was fired by the Vlieger as president of the EAG, and became president of Dutchbird a few weeks ago. This airline was bought by the EAG but finally went bankrupt last week.

Erik de Vlieger told the press two weeks ago he wants to leave all the companies he owns (selling them). The interim direcor of the EAG resigned last monday (only three weeks) after de vlieger said in a newspaper that he would file protection for HXL and that all the other airlines should go bankrupt. Suddenly he appoints his former president Prins as the new president for HXL yesterday. And today the soap continue with protection filing.

Rumours (not based on facts) are that the Dutch daughter of TUI, TUI Netherlands, wants to participate in a new HXL. With the busy summerseason to start, the biggest dutch touroperator can not afford any capacity problems in the Dutch market. Transavia and Martinair don't have enough capacity to take over the ICA business from HXL if they go bankrupt.

The Dutch airline market is in stress. Bankruptcy of AIr Holland last year, Dutchbird this year, the teake over of the KLM and now the soap around the EAG.

This is just a short summary of what is going on in the Netherlands. I thought it is nice to inform you all because there is always a lot of broad international intrest of the readers in this forum.
