Kanadische Airports: Warum Y.. als 3L-Code?

Die Frage steht schon im Betreff: Warum haben alle bekannten Flughäfen in Kanada 3-Letter-Codes, die mit Y beginnen?

Toronto’s Lester B Pearson Airport is YYZ, Vancouver is YVR and Montreal is YMQ. Why? Canadian cities already had codes, believed to originate from the Railroads and to avoid confusion, the little used letter ‘Y’ was placed in front of the existing codes.
