Virgin Atlantic's Sixth Daily Service to New York

Virgin Atlantic Airways today announced that it will be introducing an additional daily JFK service, increasing its flights between Heathrow and New York from five to six a day Virgin Atlantic Airways today announced that it will be introducing an additional daily JFK service, increasing its flights between Heathrow and New York from five to six a day. The new daily service will be the airline’s second daylight flight from New York and will operate from 1 July 2006.

 

Steve Ridgway, Chief Executive of Virgin Atlantic, said:

 

“I am delighted that Virgin Atlantic is increasing its services to New York from five to six services a day. New York was Virgin Atlantic’s first route and remains our biggest route and as this expansion shows, the demand for travel to the destination continues to go from strength to strength. This new service will see us carrying up to 200,000 extra passengers to ‘the Big Apple’ each year.

 

“Upper Class passengers flying to New York can enjoy our award winning Upper Class Suite plus four limo transfers per return journey, Drive Thru Check In at Heathrow, the brand new Clubhouse at Heathrow including Cowshed Spa and Bumble and bumble hair salon, inflight beauty therapy and on board bar.”

 

“With the addition of this New York service, we have also made some great schedule improvements making our well timed flights without a doubt the best way to travel to New York.”

 

In conjunction with the new JFK service, from the 1 July 2006 the VS009 will change from its current 1805 departure to a new Heathrow departure time of 1600. These changes will allow Virgin Atlantic to bring the VS010 departure from JFK forward to 2125.

Virgin Atlantic launched flights between London and New York - Newark in June 1984 and services to JFK in August 1989. Since then Virgin has flown over 12 million passengers between London and New York.

 

The new daylight JFK service will depart Heathrow at 18:00 and arrive into JFK at 21:00. The return flight will leave JFK at 07:30 and arrive back into Heathrow at 19:10 the same day. This service will operate using an Airbus 340-600 aircraft and will be configured with 45 Upper Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats and 223 in Economy.

 

Virgin Atlantic currently flies to 25 destinations worldwide. Services to Dubai will launch on 27 March 2006 and services to Jamaica will launch on 03 July 2006.

Wie viele Flüge gibt es jetzt damit eigentlich zwischen New York (EWR/JFK) und London (LHR/LGW/STN)? Müsste doch so bei um die 25-30 liegen, oder?

 

Und warum gibt es eigentlich keinen dayflight von New York nach Frankfurt, zwischen NYC und LON müssten es jetzt schon zwei sein, einer von BA und eben der von VS?

interessante Fragen: wenn ich richtig zählen kann, gibt es zur Zeit 27 tägliche Flüge zwischen beiden Metropolen.

 

Tagesflüge: in der Tat komisch, daß es diese (so weit ich weiß) nur ab Boston, Washington und New York nach London gibt:

 

BOS-LHR: BA + AA

 

IAD-LHR: UA

 

EWR-LHR: BA

EWR-LHR: VS/CO

JFK-LHR: AA

JFK-LHR: BA

 

Die kommen aber meistens so spät rein, daß keine Weiterflüge mehr möglich sind (zumindest nicht außerhalb von GB).

Warum es keinen Tagesflug gibt??

Das Aufkommen ist doch nicht annähernd vergleichbar mit London. Selbst Paris hat mehr NYC Flüge als FRA und hat ebenfalls keinen Tagesflug.

Desweiteren erreichen die bisherigen Tagesflüge LHR zwischen 20:00 und 20:30Uhr, ist eben der geographische Vorteil von LHR. Zeitverschiebung machts möglich. Anschluss besteht dadurch auch noch.

London liegt ist von NYC nicht so weit: geringere Entfernung und 1 Stunde weniger Zeitunterschied ab NYC.

 

Flugzeit NYC - LON: ca 6 1/2 - 7 Stunden, 5 Stunden Zeitunterschied, somit "Gesamtreisezeit" (jeweils Ortszeit) von knapp 12 Stunden.

 

Flugzeit NYC - FRA: ca. 7 - 7 1/2 Stunden, 6 Stunden Zeitunterschied, somit "Gesamtreisezeit" (jeweils Ortszeit) von 13 1/2 Stunden.

 

Ein Tagesflug nach LON ist somit zu einer halbwegs vernünftigen Abflugzeit bei gleichzeitig annehmbarer Ankunftszeit in LON möglich (Ab 8 Uhr, an 20 Uhr). Nach FRA geht das kaum, weil man entweder morgens um 6 in NYC los müßte, oder in FRA tief in der Nacht ankommt. Auch sind es einige Wochen im Jahr sogar 7 Stunden Zeitunterschied, was sich in FRA unangenehmer aufgrund der Gesamtdauer bemerkbar macht.

 

Gar nicht davon zu reden, dass FRA überhaupt nicht das notwendige Potential für einen solchen Flug hat.

PS: Z.Z sind es 28 Flüge NYC - LON: 10x BA, 6x AA, 5x VS, 2x CO, 1x UA und dann die Exoten AI, KU und neuerdings noch Eos und Maxjet.

Die rasten doch alle richtig aus^^. 28 Flüge, nun 29, weil VS einen 6ten einführt ... Aber die Austlastung ist nicht zwingend immer ganz rosig ...

gerade die Tagesfluege sind oftmals nicht besonders gebucht und Fluege sehr oft lediglich Repositionierungsfluege.

 

ansonsten ist der o&d Traffic zwischen London und New York wirklich gewaltig
