Thai AirAsia posts record Q4 profit

 

BANGKOK: Thai AirAsia Co, a low-fare airline venture between Shin Corp of Thailand and Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd, posted a record fourth-quarter profit as it carried more passengers paying higher fares.

 

Net income was 110 million baht (US$2.82mil) in the three months to Dec 31, from a loss of 44 million baht a year earlier, Thai AirAsia said in a presentation to analysts and investors in Bangkok yesterday.

 

Sales in the quarter rose 35% from a year earlier, the Bangkok-based airline said.

 

Thai AirAsia, which carried 27% more passengers in the quarter from a year earlier, added flights in Thailand and overseas, including Vietnam, Cambodia and China, as the region’s economic growth stoke demand for travel by air. Low-fare airlines including Thai AirAsia and Nok Air Co, an affiliate of Thai Airways International Pcl, have increased flights through Thailand’s Don Muang airport since last year.
