April 2006 Germans Mull Plane Move Europe's biggest tourism firm, TUI, is in talks with German airlines about creating a new low-cost carrier to take on Ryanair and easyJet, according to a report. Top managers are looking at whether carriers Hapagfly and HLX could join with domestic competitors DBA/LTU, Condor or Air Berlin, says Der Spiegel magazine. A spokesman for TUI could not comment. "It is true that everyone is talking to everyone else in the industry at the moment," he said. "I cannot confirm the talks." A spokesman for Thomas Cook, which owns Condor, also refused to comment. Germany's budget and holiday airlines are increasingly looking at co-operation deals as they try to grow in an expanding but highly competitive domestic market. European low-cost travel is dominated by Ryanair and easyJet. The region's third-biggest budget carrier, Air Berlin, plans to list on the stock exchange next month to help fund its expansion. Quelle Noch n anderer Artikel FRANKFURT (AFX) - TUI AG is in talks with its three rivals to examine the possibility of forming a merger between one of them and its own budget airline units Hapagfly and HLX, according to weekly Der Spiegel's prerelease of its Sunday edition. The report, citing industry sources, said the goal is to set up a new entity that would be in a position to compete with Ryanair and Easyjet. The three are DBA/LTU, Condor and Air Berlin, it added. It said a TUI spokesman declined comment. Sehr interessant... Da bin ich mal auf die Montagsausgabe gespannt.
