txl_SZ Geschrieben 15. November 2007 Melden Geschrieben 15. November 2007 The Government will lift the one cabin-bag rule at UK airports from January 7 – but the restriction will continue at many airports for months. Individual airports will have to apply to the Department for Transport for permission to remove the restriction and must prove they have the technology, staff and procedures to cope safely with extra luggage. Restrictions on liquids and size of bags will remain. Transport secretary Ruth Kelly announced the move on Wednesday saying: “The new approach will be introduced progressively.” A DfT spokesman declined to give details of the guidance airports will receive. Some airport bosses fear chaos as the ban is partially lift ed. Manchester Airport Group chief executive Geoff Muirhead told Travel Weekly: “Passengers will ask: ‘Why can’t I take this through? I can at Heathrow’.” High-tech scanners providing multiple images have proved a success in trials at Heathrow. But they are in short supply, with BAA conceding it only has one-third of the number on order it requires.
