sorry for posting in english I can't speak german.

I've read on pprune that lh is starting a new airline based in italy called italianwings. any truth on this? I noticed that the domain name italianwings.com is registered by lh.

bye!

Well if they do so, it will we a subside of germanwings, they registered all kind of namerights with ...wings in it in europe on their behalf.

I guess LH wont hurt AP, but an LCC in Italy run indirectly by LH could be a great sucess.

yes almost all italian airlines sucks. we really need an airline that is properly managed, and as a pilot I would be the happiest man in the world if I could be able to work for a german airline while still living in Italy.

Well, the Italian market could be very interesting for a whole bunch of airlines, as the Italian airlines are far from doing well:

> AZ/Alitalia is fighting hard - with some help from Rome - just to stay alive

> AP/Air One didn't have too good of a press the last days, as we could read in another Thread

Thus, as the italian market is quite interesting, I think that we might see a few more start ups and maybe even someone like LH to start their own sub-airline there. Just run a few trunk routes, like MXP-NYC and comute the rest to FRA, MUC and ZRH ... I could really see this work well.

But there are two more realistic scenarios for me:

- EN will see further expansion, pushed by LH, with maybe a few 32S/737s on domestic routes in Italy

- Germanwings will start up Italianwings in Italy alike their ops in Germany

... in both cases LH would be a very likely winner, which would again prove their ability to take advantage of certain market situations ... :-)

That makes sense, but hopefully italianwings will come with german leadership. ;-)

The market is still there (specially after Volare disaster), Alitalia is fighting with problems and ryanair is operating only in north west directions.

Where did you get the information?

Why should they, most of the LCC market is already taken, MyWay, easyjet , Airone and Volare.

The italien market is very tough and it would be difficult to get LIN or MXP slots.

The domain www.italianwings.com is owened by LH but so is frenchwings.com, scottishwings.com, danishwings.com etc.com

I guess Lufthansa has snapped up all available "*-wings.com"-Domains not necessarily because they want to start an airline in all those countries, but simply to minimize the risk of trademark infringements and piggybacking by start-ups.

However, it certainly would make some sense to expand the "*-wings" brand to other markets in order to create a pan-European LCC with local brands (ultimately merging them all into a new "Eurowings" :) ). For starters, I would suggest turning "Blue1" into "ScandWings", "bmibaby" into "BritishWings" etc.

LH holds a resonable interest in AirOne which has recently ordered A320 series a/c and that has now a well established name in Italy. While it makes sense to snap all available *wings.*-Domains to ensure that no Domaingrabber or Index-Spammer uses them for his/her pruposes it would make little sense in my eyes to dump the name AirOne. They spent a lot of time creating that brand and making it recognized.

However AirOne will see some heavy changes in their in-flight service with the intorduction of the A320series, namely the introduction of AirTV in Europe (first to market), even if at first they will only offer on-board stored content and no love-content. However the option to do so is there and maybe someone has even more in store for the AirOne service.

So if anything happens LH-wise in Italy then it is the re-branding of AirOne into Italianwings. Given the LH-experience with the Condor re-branding though I think it is more than doubtful that this will happen.......
