Wizz Air opens new route to Cologne from Gdansk

 

Wizz Air, the largest low cost � low fare airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced today that it would launch another new flight between Poland and Germany. Wizz Air will strengthen its positions in Gdansk by introducing flights to Cologne from 7 June 2006.

 

The news comes just a month after the airline announced the launch of flights to Cologne from Katowice. Cologne becomes Wizz Air's 7th destination from Gdansk.

 

Wizz Air continues to be the market leader in Central and Eastern Europe with close to 1.9 million passengers in 2005, 1.3 million of whom traveled on the airline's Polish routes. According to the official data of the Polish Civil Aviation Authorities published on 9 February 2006, Wizz Air remains the largest low fare airline and reinforces its position as the second largest airline in Poland. Based on the report Wizz Air has 12% share of the total Polish aviation market, double that of the next following airline. In 2005 Wizz Air was one of the fastest growing airlines in Europe with growth rate of 233% over 2004.

 

The airline has recently made a series of announcements on new destinations across its network including a number of German routes such as: Wroclaw-Dortmund, Katowice-Cologne and Gdansk-Lübeck. These flights will commence early spring.

 

The first flight to Cologne will take off on 7 June 2006, 3 times a week initially. Tickets for the flights are already on sale on the airline's website, wizzair.com. or by calling the Wizz Air call centre on +48 22 351 94 99 (Poland) or 0180 500 93 45 (Germany).

 

Regular one way fares start from as low as 32,99 EUR/112 PLN including taxes and charges. As an introductory offer a limited number of seats are available at a promotional fare of 29,99 EUR/102 PLN (including taxes and charges) till 31 March 2006.

 

József Váradi, Chief Executive Officer of Wizz Air said: "We continue to offer more affordable and easy connections between Poland and Germany to better serve the big travel demand between the two countries. Cologne is especially interesting for holiday makers and many visitors flying to see their friends and relatives from Poland. On the other hand, Gdansk is becoming an increasingly popular holiday destination for the German travelers."

Finde es sehr mutig von Wizz, da Germanwings sich in direkter Konkurrenz auf der Strecke befindet. Mal gespannt wer sich da auf dauer durchsetzt.

Nachdem ja EAE heimlich alle Polen-Strecken eingestellt hat. :o)

Bemerkenswert, dass WIZZ ausgerechnet die Strecken aufnimmt, die bereits ab CGN geflogen werden. Posen und Breslau wären sicher einen Versuch wert, aber das klappt wohl umlauftechnisch momentan nicht so ganz, das sind ja beides keine Basen! Zum Winter wäre das sicher aber eine Überlegung wert...

Wenn etwas mehr als 5 Stunden für Danzig reichen, kann man das sogar mit dem FR-Flug nach HHN verbinden.

Ja schade, mit 4U ist das leider nicht kombinierbar, die Flugzeiten am Samstag sind zu ähnlich, da wäre noch nichtmal ein Shorttrip drin...

Tja, aber der Flug kommt erst um 23:25 in HHN an, dann noch 2,5 Stunden mim Bus nach Köln - na i woiß net, das ist mir GDN irgendwie nicht wert!

Bilde ich mir das nur ein oder durfte für die Aufnahme dieser Verbindung der bereits für den 27.03. angekündigte Flug Kaunas - Malmö die Segel streichen? Diese Verbindung ist nämlich nur noch über Warschau buchbar.

SO bin die Strecke die Tage geflogen CGN-GDN-HHN, die Wizz Strecke nach Danzig scheint sich überraschend schnell etabliert zu haben, auf dem Incoming Flug nach Köln habe ich 151 Leute gezählt, auf meinem Flug nach GDN waren 132 Leute an Bord....
